Yeah so...one half of the Finals is set.....BOSTON CELTICS BABY!!! After a dominating 96-84 victory over the Magic, the Boston Celtics win the NBA Eastern Conference Championship for the 21st time, advancing to the Finals in hopes to win their 18th World Championship.
In the West, the Lakers had a light shine on them from above, when Kobe missed a 3pt jumper and Ron Artest nailed the putback at the buzzer for the win, as the Lakers beat the Suns 103-101 in Game 5 to take a 3-2 series lead. Game 6 is back in Phoenix on Saturday at 8:30 EST.
I made this a thread for the 2010 Offseason as well, since there are now 27 teams making their offseason plans. Discuss what you think will happen after the Finals, when free agency officially starts at Midnight on July 1. Where will LeBron end up? Will D-Wade stay in Miami? Same questions are being asked around the league as a number of marquee players will be on the market...

Very nice summary post lol.
Nate Robinson came to play tonight, Pierce continues to add to his HOF-bound career with a 31-13-5 and 9/10 from the FT line, and Orlando lived and died by the three (6 for 22, 27%). The Magic do not need to make drastic changes to their roster, but Carter clearly is not the solution and Howard has A LOT to work on in the offseason (plz call up Hakeem).
As for the Western Conference Finals, I expect the Lakers to finish off Phoenix tomorrow night and go at least six with Boston in the Finals. Right now, I will stick with my choice from the start of the season of another Lakers championship, in 6.
Needless to say, as a fan of the NBA and someone who has followed the Summer 2010 hype over the last several years, I cannot wait for the NBA Draft and subsequent July 1st contacts. Lebron and Wade stay in their respective cities, but it could get interesting outside of those two. Bosh and Johnson will most definitely flee their teams.

Also, this offseason is sure to be VERY interesting.

Lots of teams currently without head coaches. Who ends up where?
Atlanta Hawks - ? Chicago Bulls - ? Cleveland Cavaliers - ? Los Angeles Clippers - ? New Jersey Nets - ? New Orleans Hornets - ?
Here are several legitimate candidates for these positions:
Avery Johnson (current ESPN NBA analyst) Byron Scott (current ESPN NBA analyst) Maurice Cheeks (former Philly head coach/current OKC assistant) Mike Brown (former Cleveland head coach) Lawrence Frank (former New Jersey head coach) Mike Woodson (former Atlanta head coach) Kelvin Sampson (current Milwaukee assistant) Tom Thibodeau (current Boston assistant) Dwane Casey (current Dallas assistant) Elston Turner (current Houston assistant) Tyrone Corbin (current Utah assistant) Dan Majerle (current Phoenix assistant) Monty Williams (current Portland assistant) Brian Shaw (current LAL assistant) Mike Krzyzewski (current Duke head coach) John Calipari (current UK head coach) Mark Jackson (current ESPN/ABC NBA analyst) Jeff Van Gundy (current ESPN/ABC NBA analyst/former Houston head coach), among others.

I see Mike Brown ending up with either Chicago or New Jersey. Something tells me Chicago, I can't explain it.

I had the Lakers winning by 8, 122-114, tonight and Kobe scoring 35+ for a Lakers victory, so I wasn't too far off. Didn't expect Artest's follow-up 25, though.
Can't wait for Boston/LA and, as I said before, I'll take LA in 6.

voices.washingtonpost.com/dcsportsbog/2010/05/leonsis_on_the_wizards_name_an.htmlWhat to do, what to do... I don't anticipate a change back to the Washington Bullets because of Pollin's decision years ago (and because it would be TOO accurate to have with Arenas on the roster). I think they'll end up sticking with the Wizards name but changing the color scheme to one that is predominately red with some blue and white mixed in. That's at least what I got out of that, but I would rather see a complete change from the Wizards concept. Although I hate singular team names, Washington Justice does make the most sense to me.

Teams and the choices they will likely make for the head coaching position this summer (as of now):
Atlanta - Dwane Casey, Avery Johnson. Chicago - Tom Thibodeau, Maurice Cheeks, Lawrence Frank, Brian Shaw, Elston Turner, etc. Cleveland - Kelvin Sampson (possible), others unknown. LA Clippers - Larry Brown (might try to pry away from Charlotte), Tom Thibodeau, Dwane Casey, etc. New Jersey - Avery Johnson, Tom Thibodeau, Mike Brown New Orleans - Tom Thibodeau, Monty Williams (Paul prefers).
At this point, I would say Mike Woodson and/or Mike Brown become analysts for ESPN or NBATV.

I'm going to predict LA takes (err, wins) it at home tonight convincingly, 96-83.
Another big game from Kobe in the 30-32 point range, Gasol finishes with 18-20, and the bench keeps Boston on their heels all game. Game 2 should be a little more competitive, though, and I think the Celtics could steal one before heading back home.
Nevertheless, I hope to be proven wrong as I will be cheering on Boston throughout the series. What a playoff run thus far.

Lakers win Game 1, 102-89, in convincing fashion.
Meanwhile, Kobe has 30-7-6 and Gasol puts up 23-14-3 with only 15 points coming from off the bench (Artest had 15 alone as a starter).
I would say I was pretty close lol. My final score was right...well, at the 2:07 mark of the 4th quarter, but that has to count for something, right?
Simply put, the Lakers outworked Boston on both ends tonight.

I agree Chi. From the highlights I am watching right now, the C's just made too many mistakes to win a game tonight. Down 14 with 6 minutes was not an insurmountable deficit, but they just couldn't do it. We just need to come out swinging in Game 2 on Sunday before heading back to Boston for 4, 5, and 6. We need to win Game 2 though, bottom line.

That's something I noticed, too.
Even when they were only down 13-14 points in the second half, it felt more like a 26-28 point deficit that they just couldn't overcome. The three-point shot just wasn't there for them last night and Boston never could establish any sort of flow or pace with the early foul trouble.
I just can't stand all the petty fouls, mostly coming off of screens, that were being called; the referees assigned to Game 1 kept it way too tight for anything even remotely exciting to happen.
